ABOUT US

Pompey Darkroom is an arts organisation aiming to promote and support photography in the city. It has hosted a number of photography-based events, these include; photography artist talks, photo walks, photobook nights, collage and text and image workshops, sector support/portfolio reviews and exhibitions. It is a collaborative organisation and prides itself on working alongside many other organisations with the belief that through partnership working we can create bigger and better things for the community.

To date it has worked with Downtown Pompey, Aspex Portsmouth, Pitt Street Skatepark, Queer All Year, No6 Cinema, Photoworks UK and Photo Fringe.

The primary focus is to support people who are interested in photography who may find it otherwise inaccessible as well as creating new opportunities to those who haven’t experienced photography before. The long-term goals are to nurture a community of open and like-minded photography lovers and help them develop their creative practice, no matter what stage they may be at.

The ultimate goal is to build a darkroom in the city which will open up further opportunities to those interested in accessing traditional analogue printing and pave a new path for keeping traditional print methods alive.
